As a young musician, Karamoko led his own band, Super Manding Jazz, in Mali. His talent and popularity led to his recruitment into the government-sponsored Super Rail Band of Mali, whose previous members have included superstars Salif Keita and Mory Kante. For seven years Karamoko toured with the band throughout Africa, France, Belgium and Holland, as well as playing regular house gigs at the Buffet Hotel de la Gare in Bamako. While living in Mali he was also a frequent accompanist to some of the country's most legendary griots.
